Centrale Electrique Ohm (Belgium)

The abandoned power station was built in the first decade of the twentieth century in a typical Industrial Revolution-architectural style with a grand steel roof. This beautiful building, equipped with marvelous turbines, was abandoned a long time ago and has – after decades of collecting dust – been sold to a private investor.

    Your work is discriminating and insightful.

    I don’t get tired of studying your photographs and they always evoke a change in how I feel at the moment. Sometimes chimerical feelings, imagining the building or room in its prime and how its inhabitants lived, loved and worked in it. Sometimes sadness and amazement from the awareness that something so immense in size and grandure, so meticulous and tedious in detail still could not overcome circumstance and would be allowed to disintegrate.

    Lighting, angle and subject bear your thought and consideration, experience and ability.

    Your photographs capture the irony in these structures, which is never boring. Abandoned personal effects, torn wallpaper and neatly stacked chairs. A grand ceiling, almost spiritual, hovering stately over decomposing walls and floors.

    Your photographs are something I look forward to deciphering, pondering and experiencing the feelings they never fail to drum up.
