Iron foundry, specialized in iron sewerage pipes and mechanical castings. In 2002 a takeover took place but the factory went bankrupt one year later.

Typical pre-WW1 power station. The station was built in 1911 and provided the region with steam and energy. In 2001 the station closed down.

Foundry and steel works with offices in Sezession-style.

This modernist hotel was built in 1936 on a hill with a nice view over the surroundings. In 2002 the hotel lost its license to keep the outdoor swimming pool running. In 2004 Hotel Kosmos went bankrupt.

Wheat flour producing factory. After losing it’s environmental license, the factory got abandoned.

One of the small ‘lower Sambre’-mines. The coal mine, with a concrete headstock, never produced big quantities of coal due to the fact that the earth layers in the ‘lower Sambre’-area aren’t that interesting for coal exploration.

TBC sanatorium, built around 1900. The whole complex consisted of 60 buildings in a green environment and could accommodate 1200 patients. After WW2 the Russian Army took over the place and it became the best equipped military hospital outside the Soviet Union. In 1994 the Russian army left the facilities.

Dutch Expo pavilion. Got abandoned right after the World Exhibition.
